Iowa State University (also known as ISU) of Science and Technology was founded on March 22, 1858. The school is situated in Ames, Iowa and is a land-grant as well as space-grant public research university. On March 29, 1864 the school became the first land-grant college in the United States. In 1879, it established the very first public veterinary medical school in the county. The official school colors are cardinal and gold and the mascot is Cy the Cardinal. The Iowa State University’s revolutionary research is responsible for inventions such as the ABC computer which is the first binary computer, Maytag blue cheese, and the round hay baler.
