Another integral member of the University of Texas system, UTEP is the largest university in the United States. Its close proximity with the southern border has resulted in its student population being over three-quarters Mexican-American. Standing proudly beside the banks of the Rio Grande, UTEP has spent its 98 years as a facility of higher education growing and expanding its efforts to reach out to students and give them the opportunities they need to thrive. The UTEP athletics teams are called the Miners and they have 16 Varsity sports teams. They participate in the NCAA Division 1 Football Bowl Subdivision.
