Southern Methodist University (SMU) is a private research university located in Dallas, Texas. It was founded in 1911 by what is now known as The United Methodist Church. The school opened its doors in 1915. They sports teams are nicknamed the Mustangs. Red and blue are the university’s official colors and the mascot is Peruna. The licensed SMU Scentsy warmer, features the school colors of blue and red and a mustang is centered on the front.
Southern Methodist University (SMU) is a member of Division-1 of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Beginning in 2013, it will be a member of the Big East Conference. The school participates in fifteen (15) varsity sports. The athletics teams are called Mustangs and they are represented by a black stallion Shetland pony named Peruna. The university holds one of the most expansive Spanish art collections outside of Spain at its world-famous Meadows Museum. One of the university’s students is voted-in and is a part of the school’s Board of Trustees. Only a handful of universities in the United States afford this voted privilege to its student population. According to Bloomberg Businessweek, the university’s Cox School of Business has the rare privilege among universities to have three of its M.B.A. programs ranked in the top twelve in the nation. One of the university’s alumni, James Watson Cronin, won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1980 along with his research partner Val Logsdon Fitch.
